The Vikings are fierce warriors, explorers, and conquerors — bringing their own unique structures, hero abilities, and unit traits to Travian: Northern Legends. This guide covers everything you need to know about their special abilities, buildings, hero features, and army composition.
Viking Special Abilities and Buildings
Viking Harbor
The Viking Harbor serves as the heart of their expansion — enabling faster and more efficient raids across the seas.
Viking ships travel 24 fields per hour through deep water (on x1 worlds), faster than the 18 fields per hour of other tribes.
This speed bonus applies to raids only (not attacks or reinforcements).
Construction costs and other details are identical to regular harbors.
The Barricade
The Barricade is the Vikings’ defensive wall — solid but not their strongest feature, as Vikings prefer attacking.
Base defense: 6 points per level
Durability: 3
Defensive bonus: +1.5% per level
Building cost: 110 Wood, 170 Clay, 70 Iron, 50 Crop
Even though the Vikings are primarily offensive, a few Barricade levels can provide valuable defense for key villages.
Merchants and Trade Ships
Vikings are not just raiders — their merchants ensure a steady flow of resources between settlements.
| Type | Speed | Capacity | Trade Ship Capacity | Trade Office Bonus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Merchant | 18 | 750 | — | — |
| Trade Ship | — | — | 3000 | +10% per level |
Their trade ships allow for large-scale resource transport over water, supporting both growth and warfare.
Viking Hero
Hero Ability
The Viking hero is a powerful leader, capable of turning the tide in conquest.
When leading attacks or raids, the hero inflicts +5% loyalty damage on enemy villages.
This bonus can increase by 5 points with your own great celebrations or decrease by 5 points if the defender hosts one.
Standard conquest rules still apply — including same alliance limits, NAPs, capital restrictions, and the need for a chief or Jarl to complete the takeover.
The Viking hero’s loyalty damage applies before any administrator’s effect, but the hero cannot conquer a village alone (even at 0% loyalty).
Hero Weapons
Each weapon strengthens a specific Viking unit type.

The Jarl
Jarls are Viking leaders and administrators who command with both wisdom and authority.
They are responsible for conquering new villages and expanding your empire.
Loyalty Reduction: 15–30%
Research Cost: 18,250 Wood / 13,320 Clay / 20,040 Iron / 16,480 Crop
Research Time: 5:23:45
Their presence inspires troops and ensures conquered lands integrate smoothly into your kingdom.
The Berserker’s Unique Ability: Damage on Death
Berserkers are deadly attackers who continue to harm enemies even in death.
Ability:
Each Berserker killed while attacking or raiding (not defending) kills 1 enemy unit in return.
Walls and Watchtower bonuses do not reduce this effect.
The ability is calculated after the main battle results.
Wounded units still go to the hospital normally.
Formula:Surviving defenders (each type) × (Killed Berserkers ÷ Total surviving defenders)
Example:
If 100 Berserkers die while attacking, and 200 Slave Militias + 100 Druidriders survive:
Total defenders: 300
100 ÷ 300 = 0.333
Effect:
200 × 0.333 = 67 Slave Militias die additionally
100 × 0.333 = 33 Druidriders die additionally
