5 things to consider about Spartans

he Travian: Glory of Sparta Closed beta is just around the corner and today we will give you a bit more insight into this legendary tribe.

So, when choosing Spartans, what are the 5 most important things you need to consider?

  1. Spartans are a mid and late game tribe. Extremely strong and crop efficient, the real strength of the Spartans will be at its max by mid-game. Regardless of what you pick as your specialty – attack or defence, you will become a nightmare to your enemies with enough patience.
  2. Don’t underestimate the Sentinels! Those units are truly unique. Only 5 resources more expensive than the base unit – the Hoplite – they provide one of the best coverages against rival spy-operations. Additionally, they have quite nice defence values for a scouting unit.
  3. Spartans are great defenders. With the Elpida Rider being in line with the most defensive cavalry units of other tribes and the Shieldsmen being the fastest and an ultra-strong defensive infantry in the game, Spartan anvils will have the final word in almost any mid-game battle. The Spartan hero ability and their unique building – the Asclepeion – benefit and compliment those defensive values.
  4. Even though the Spartans are very efficient against enemy infantry, they are quite vulnerable to cavalry attacks. Keep an eye on your army and don’t leave it undefended or without the Sentinels’ support.
  5. Since early-game Spartans might not be the best farmers due to their base unit costs and longer training, the best option for those who start with the Spartans would be combining a non-farming strategy with an average farm. You can train some Hoplites, but make sure that your Hoplites bring home more than they cost and consume during your beginner protection! You want them to speed up, not slow down your rush to a second village.

You can find settling guides for different speeds below:

And now. The utmost important piece of advice we can give you:

Even if you start with the Spartans as a tribe in Travian: Glory of Sparta, answering your mother-in-law’s dinner invitation with a Spartan quote: “Tonight we dine in hell!” would not be the best idea.
