Starting your journey in Travian: Legends can be exciting — and a little overwhelming. This guide will help you take your first steps effectively, from registration to settling your second village.
Before You Register
1. Pick the right gameworld
Join the most recent gameworld, ideally within one hour of its start. Doing this ensures everyone begins on equal footing and you can take advantage of early-game opportunities.
>You can check new and upcoming gameworlds in the Gameworld Schedule.
2. Choose your tribe wisely
If you’re new or returning after a break, start with a tribe that fits your playstyle and available time:
Gauls – Great for new players. They have low time requirements and cheap early defense.
Egyptians – Excellent resource production.
Romans – Strong and fast builders, but gold-intensive.
Each tribe has unique strengths, so pick one that feels right for your pace and goals.
For more details, check:
3. Select a quadrant to settle in
The “Recommended” quadrant shows the least crowded area at registration time. While your choice won’t drastically change your gameplay, it affects how dense your surroundings are.
After Registration
When your spawn village appears, you’ll start with a hero, some initial resources, and 130 gold.
If you plan to play actively:
Activate all 25% resource bonuses (20 gold total — 5 per resource) under Gold → Advantages → Resource bonuses.
Your first steps:
Activate your resource bonuses to maximize production.
Send your hero on their first adventure — pick the one with the shortest travel time to get the horse reward. Once the horse is equipped, future travel times will update automatically.
Plan your second village while your first buildings are upgrading. Your second village will likely be your future capital. Look for a 15-cropper, 9-cropper, or 7-cropper location with good nearby oases.
Place a flag at your chosen coordinates so you don’t lose track of them. Mark multiple options in case one is taken.
Building Your Foundation
Take your time with the early game. Use this phase to learn, experiment, and plan your strategy. The Knowledgebase offers helpful insights for every stage of development.
Helpful early-game habits:
Watch for exclamation marks or signs in the interface. They often indicate rewards or required actions.
You can disable contextual pop-ups in Settings if you prefer a cleaner interface.
Collect quest rewards from your hero inventory and use them strategically. Don’t hoard them, but don’t use them all at once — they’re a key resource boost early on.
Check missing resources quickly:
Open the NPC Merchant window to see what’s missing and balance your resource distribution.
Transfer only what’s needed for your next upgrade.
Tip: Use the NPC Merchant only when you can’t cover the shortage from your hero’s resources. Always calculate carefully.
Advancing Beyond the Tutorial
Claim your daily quest rewards before reset — unclaimed rewards disappear.
Develop both villages simultaneously after settling your second one.
Use the Early Development Guide.Train troops only in the last few hours of beginner protection. This ensures you don’t waste resources too early and helps you prepare for sustained development.
Join an alliance rather than creating your own at the start.
Choose one active near you (check in your embassy).
Contact the recruiter or leader directly — a polite message goes a long way.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s my first goal?
Settle your second village as soon as possible. This expands your economy and strategic reach.
What if someone else claims my desired location?
The first settlers to arrive take the valley. If you lose the race, your settlers return home — simply send them to another location.
How should I develop my villages?
Follow the Developing Your First Villages guide for optimal early progress.
Which village should become my capital?
A cropper village with good oases bonuses works best. Learn more about options here:
Types of Capitals and Their Development
How can I change my capital?
Build a Palace in the desired village, then click “Make this village my capital.” If a palace already exists elsewhere, destroy it first.
How do I gain more resources?
Farm unoccupied oases for extra resources — it’s a safe and effective method.
Conquering Basics
To conquer (chief) another village:
Train your tribe’s administrator unit (e.g., Senator, Chieftain, Chief, Nomarch, etc.).
Destroy the target’s administrative building (Residence, Palace, or Command Centre) with catapults.
Attack repeatedly with your administrator until loyalty drops to 0.
More details here: Conquering Villages
To prevent being conquered, see: Preventing Conquering
Conquering your own village resets walls, cancels queues, and removes troops — plan carefully.
Interaction with Other Players
Joining an alliance:
Build an embassy → check the list of alliances within 50 fields → message leaders or recruiters.
Being part of an alliance improves defense, cooperation, and protection from farming.
Follow Travian Etiquette to make a good impression.
Getting farmed?
Avoid being farmed by:
Staying active.
Keeping your development steady.
Building a wall and training a few troops.
Avoiding large resource stockpiles when offline.

Calculating Hourly Production
If an alliance leader asks for “1 hour of production,” you can calculate it easily:
Open General Statistics and find your production circle.
Hover over the yellow (crop) section for daily production data.
Use this formula:
Total crop × 100 ÷ % of crop ÷ 24 = Hourly production
Example:
Total: 15,079,872 (77.1% crop)
→ 15,079,872 × 100 ÷ 77.1 ÷ 24 = ~814,952 resources/hour
