Battle Mechanics

War is an essential part of Travian: Legends. This guide gives an overview of how battles work, what influences them, and what happens before, during, and after combat.

Before Battle

Offence and Defence Points

Every unit has:

  • Offence points (used when attacking)

  • Defence points against infantry

  • Defence points against cavalry

Only offence points of the attacker and defence points of the defender are used in combat.
A unit strong in defence may still be ineffective in attack (e.g., Praetorians), while units like Macemen are poor defenders. Always use units according to their intended role.

Because the combat system is complex, outcomes can be difficult to predict. You can use the combat simulator in the Rally Point to estimate the result.

Smithy

The Smithy increases troop strength through upgrades. When simulating combat, make sure to enter the correct Smithy level for each troop.

Artefacts

Artefacts can affect troop behaviour and village defence. Depending on the artefact, it might boost anti-siege resistance, training speed, or reduce crop consumption.

Types of Battle

  • Raid
A fast attack meant to steal resources.

    • Loyalty is not reduced.

    • Catapults do not fire.

    • Rams do not damage walls.

  • Attack
A full battle to the death.

    • Ends only when one side loses all troops.

    • Loyalty is reduced if administrators are present.

    • Catapults and rams function normally.

  • Scouting
If only scout units are sent, they perform scouting regardless of choosing raid or attack.
You can choose to scout enemy resources/troops or defences/troops.

Gaul-specific note:
In both raids and attacks, Gaul Trappers can capture enemy troops. In a full attack, the army will attempt to free any trapped troops from your side or your allies. 25% of freed troops die in the process.

Outgoing Troop Limit

There is a limit of 20,000 outgoing troops per avatar.
This includes attacks, raids, adventures, reinforcements, and any other movement.
Once the limit is reached, new raids cannot be sent until troops return.

In Battle

Wall

The defending village’s wall gives a percentage-based defence bonus, depending on its tribe and level.

Rams

Rams are the only units that can destroy walls.

Village Defence Value

An empty village has a base defence of 10.
A lone attacking unit with less than 83 offence points will always die, regardless of the defender’s losses.

Administration Building

Residence, Palace, or Command Center adds passive defence:

  • At level 20, this is 800 defence points (infantry & cavalry).

Morale Bonus

Removed from the game in 2022.

Brewery

A Brewery celebration boosts the attacker’s troop strength by 1% per level, but:

  • Administrators lose 50% persuasion strength

  • Catapults can only hit random targets

Catapults

Used to destroy enemy buildings and fields.

After Battle

Hospital

The Hospital allows you to heal wounded troops. Healing costs the same resources as training new troops, but takes half the time.

Bandages

If equipped before battle, bandages revive a percentage of troops immediately after the fight.

Village Conquest

If administrators were sent and conditions are met, the village can be conquered.

Artefact Capture

If an artefact is located in the village, the attacker may capture it.

Village Destruction

Siege troops may destroy a village if sent in sufficient numbers.

Oasis Capture

You can capture an oasis once:

  • You destroy its defence

  • Your hero reduces its loyalty

Stealing Resources

Resources can be taken during raids or attacks from:

  • Warehouse

  • Granary

  • Unsold Marketplace offers

Crannies protect resources.
Gauls have larger Cranny protection.

Resources in the hero inventory cannot be stolen.

Using a hero to raid increases plunder—Teuton heroes have +20% plunder by default and can increase it further with certain hero items.
