Managing crop production is one of the most important parts of playing Travian: Legends — and one of the earliest challenges many players face. Crop is constantly consumed by your population, buildings, and troops, so keeping production balanced is key to avoiding starvation and troop losses.
Understanding Crop Consumption
Every building, field, and troop consumes a certain amount of crop per hour.
For example, a level 1 Woodcutter requires:
40 Wood | 100 Clay | 50 Iron | 60 Crop | Consumes 2 Crop/hour
This means the building constantly reduces your available crop by 2 per hour.
You can check your resource overview (top of the game screen) to monitor:
Current stock of each resource
Total crop production
Available free crop
Negative Crop Production
If your crop consumption exceeds production, your crop value becomes negative.
This means your troops are consuming more than your fields produce — and they will eventually starve once the granary empties. When stored crop reaches 0, troops begin to die gradually until the balance stabilizes at zero.
Starvation stops once production and consumption are even again.
To check what is causing the imbalance, click the crop balance icon (the last icon on the top bar).
This shows a detailed breakdown of crop income and usage for your current village.
Free Crop
Free crop = Crop production − Population consumption
It shows how much crop is available for troops and other usage.
Includes:
Bonuses from Oases
Bonuses from Mill and Bakery
Does not include:
Hero production bonuses
Travian Plus crop bonus

This screen displays:
Resource production rates
Hero and bonus contributions
Crop consumption from own and foreign troops

Construction and Upgrade Limits
You cannot start an upgrade or construction that would cause free crop to drop below 1 — except in the following cases:
You can always upgrade a crop field.
You can build or upgrade a Grain Mill or Bakery if doing so increases free crop.
Main Building level 1 can always be built.
If your base crop production is 276 crop/hour or higher, you can build or upgrade Main Building, Warehouse, and Granary up to level 10, regardless of free crop.
World Wonders are always exempt and may be upgraded freely.
You cannot destroy a Grain Mill or Bakery if that would reduce free crop below 1 (ongoing demolitions are already counted).
Hero Crop Production
Your hero provides a base production of 6 crop/hour, regardless of skill point allocation.
This production:
Follows the same rules as other hero resource bonuses
Adds to the production of the hero’s current village
Does not increase free crop
Even a dead hero continues to produce 6 crop/hour.
When revived, the hero’s resource production resumes at the same time their crop consumption restarts.
Preventing Crop Problems
Regularly check your production overview.
Upgrade crop fields, Mill, and Bakery whenever possible.
Avoid training troops or starting upgrades if you’re close to negative crop.
Keep an eye on foreign reinforcements — they consume your crop while stationed in your village.
Always have a Granary with enough capacity to prevent starvation during absences.
