The Hospital (and its Spartan variant, the Asclepeion) allows players to heal wounded troops and return them to active duty. This helps rebuild armies faster after battles, as healing takes half the time of training new troops — though the resource cost is the same.
Wounded Troops
When units from a village with a Hospital (or Asclepeion) take part in battle, a portion of their losses return as wounded soldiers instead of dying outright.
Hospital: 40% of losses return as wounded
Asclepeion: 60% of losses return as wounded
This applies to all battles — attacking, defending, or reinforcing.
Wounded units:
Cannot fight,
Do not consume crop,
Can later be healed in the Hospital or Asclepeion.
Exceptions:
Siege engines, settlers, administrators, and heroes cannot be wounded.
Troops killed while escaping Gaul traps do not become wounded.
Only troops from villages that already had a Hospital at the time of battle can become wounded.
Bandages (hero items) do not affect this mechanic.
Example:
If your army loses 100 troops and your hero uses 33 bandages, you’ll recover 33 instantly, and another 40 (40%) return as wounded.
Healing Wounded Troops
The Hospital (and Asclepeion) has its own healing queue, similar to the Barracks or Stable.
Healing costs are equal to training costs for the same unit.
Healing time is half of the training time at the same building level.
Both infantry and cavalry heal in the same queue.
Healing speed is not affected by artefacts, alliance bonuses, hero items, or the Roman Horse Drinking Trough.
Example:
A Barracks level 20 trains an Ash Warden in 80 seconds.
A Hospital level 20 heals one in 40 seconds.
Wounded Decay
Wounded units not queued for healing slowly die over time.
They decay at a rate of 10% per day until healed or gone.
Once added to the healing queue, they stop decaying.
Hospital Destruction or Conquest
If the Hospital is destroyed, the healing queue continues as normal.
Wounded units still decay at 10% per day.
If destroyed during battle, wounded are still created but remain inaccessible until rebuilt.
If the village is conquered, all troops, including wounded, are deleted.
The Asclepeion (Spartan Exclusive)
The Asclepeion replaces the Hospital for Spartans.
It has the same functionality but with:
60% recovery rate instead of 40%.
Lower building requirements.
Higher Culture Point output.
Building | Requirements | Tribe | Recovery |
---|---|---|---|
Hospital | Main Building 10, Academy 15 | All (except Spartans) | 40% |
Asclepeion | Main Building 5, Academy 10 | Spartans only | 60% |
Tips
Always rebuild your Hospital immediately after destruction — healing queues resume automatically.
Use it to recover from large-scale battles quickly, especially in World Wonder or Artefact wars.
Remember to queue healing early to prevent wounded from decaying.
Spartans benefit greatly from the Asclepeion’s 60% recovery, making it ideal for sustained warfare.
